Classical Crossover Concert Detailed Description

Grammy Winner Darlene Koldenhoven will take you on a gloriously entertaining 90-minute voyage into classical-crossover music with her Infinite Voice Concert. Singing from her celebrated #1 albums, Darlene accompanies herself on grand piano or adds the occasional orchestral flourish that she arranged, performed and recorded to enhance her musical canvas. Sometimes she charms with a solo piano piece or delightfully arranges her classical touches to popular songs. Darlene weaves the fascinating stories behind the music and spins her golden assoluta multi-octave voice from classical to pop. A moving highlight of the show is her tribute to our nation’s heroes with her symphonic rock original, “Remember Me,” inviting veterans on stage with her; followed by her operatic soprano version of Puccini’s triumphant tenor aria “Nessun Dorma from Turandot.” Darlene’s voice floats like an angel between lyrics to vocalise, heartfelt power ballads to demanding coloratura, commanding several languages along the way. Her stellar arrangements are compelling throughout, whether it be Delibes’ flower duet  “Sous le dome epais” from Lakme that she sang as “Aria” in “Yanni, Live at the Acropolis;” to her Twilight suite, teaming up Debussy’s “Clair de lune” with Burwell’s “Bella’s Lullaby;” or from Alejandro’s infectious Latin romantic ballad “Ay Cariño” to Seal’s “Kiss From a Rose” with its rousing crescendo of children and adult choirs. Her captivating repertoire also includes music from composers Stravinsky, Sting, Faure, Ravel, Morricone, Dave Grusin, David Foster, Spheeris/Voudouris, Celtic/American Traditional, and Darlene’s beautiful originals. Infinitely intriguing, Darlene’s Infinite Voice Concert is a fully engaging masterpiece of musicianship and performance while joyfully lifting your spirit and deeply touching your soul.

Holiday Concert Detailed Description
Although some of the titles may sound familiar, the material in Grammy Winner Darlene Koldenhoven’s Holiday Concert is anything but predictable. Most of the music is from her Heavenly Peace album voted Best Holiday Album 2007 by Broadcasters worldwide, as well as Infinite Voice, also voted Best Vocal Album 2007, and two of the three non-seasonal albums Darlene produced in 2011, Inspired by a True Story and Solitary Treasures. The audience will be treated to unusual Classical Crossover arrangements of familiar carols like the festively orchestrated “Deck the Halls,” “Silent Night” in 4 part tight vocal harmony,” “What Child is This” done in a different meter, and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” arranged with dueling voice and violin. They are surrounded by Darlene’s haunting original songs, “Gabriel to Mary, Weaping,” “Joseph’s Question,” and “The Star to the Stable,” telling the Christmas story with a fresh perspective. Uplifting non-seasonal songs with universal positive messages of peace and love are woven into the celebratory fabric such as Morricone’s “Gabriel’s Oboe-Nella Fantasia,” taken from the film The Mission but arranged with a jazz twist; Darlene’s own gospel flavored songs “Sing” and “Essence of Your Peace,” and her odd metered, world-music influenced “Infinite Voice” as well as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu” from Requiem, a stunning New Age arrangement by “March of the Penguin’s” composer, Alex Wurman. Dave Grusin’s “Canto Invierno” will be sung as a vocalise paired with his classical jazz version of the Alfred Burt carol “Some Children See Him.” Darlene will be accompanying herself on piano on a few classical holiday songs, among them are “The Little Road to Bethlehem” and one sung in Spanish, “A la Nanita Nana.” For those who enjoy pop music, there’s a new rousing holiday anthem by the team of Kevin Malpass & Catherine Porter, “We Want Peace.” Darlene will also be honoring our nation’s heroes, inviting veterans & active duty to join her on stage, as she sings her tribute, symphonic-rock song, “Remember Me.” Rounding out the evening will be the traditionally tenor, opera aria, Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” from Turandot sung by Darlene in full opera flair not to be missed. The frosting on this Christmas cake is Darlene’s remarkable 5-Octave voice; from the deep, rich, warm lows to the gloriously soaring, high, clear soprano and all the styles she magnificently manifests with her voice. This is the voice you’ve known as the featured soloist in the PBS-TV Special & DVD seen by over 1.5 billion worldwide, Yanni, Live at the Acropolis. Ms. Koldenhoven, now being recognized for her own work, will present a holiday concert that takes you to musical places that you’ve probably never been before and leaves you in a state of much welcomed Heavenly Peace.
